Dried mealworms are the convenient, shelf-stable way to feed — all the protein of live mealworms with none of the upkeep. 100% natural with nothing added, and more nutritionally dense per gram than live worms because the moisture is removed.
Who they're for
- Wild garden birds — robins, thrushes, barbets and starlings go wild for them; use a feeder or scatter on a bird table
- Chickens and poultry — a high-protein treat that supports laying and feather condition, especially during moult
- Hedgehogs, sugar gliders and small mammals — as an occasional treat
- Reptiles and fish — for animals that will take non-moving food
Dried vs live
No refrigeration, no feeding, no escapes — dried mealworms keep for months in a sealed container in the cupboard. The trade-off: they don't move, so reptiles that hunt by motion may prefer live mealworms. For birds and chickens, dried is usually the better format.
Feeding tip
Soak in warm water for 10–15 minutes before feeding to rehydrate them — especially in summer, when it helps birds get moisture as well as food.
