Cleaner Crew

The cleaner crew (Alphitobius diaperinus, the lesser mealworm beetle) is colony maintenance you don't have to do yourself. Added to a roach colony, these small beetles and their larvae work through dropped food, frass build-up and — crucially — dead roaches before they can rot, keeping the bin dramatically cleaner and healthier between deep cleans.

Why breeders use them

• Consume dead feeders and food scraps that would otherwise grow mould or attract mites
• Keep moisture-related odour down in large colonies
• Self-sustaining — they breed within the colony and need no separate care
• Completely safe alongside dubia and other roaches; they don't harm healthy live feeders

What you get

Each culture contains approximately 30–50 beetles — enough to seed a standard colony bin. Population scales itself to the amount of waste available.
